Ried Karlsberg Cuvée 2022
Pure expression of flavor in wine from the storied Ried Karlsberg, located above the village of Herrnbaumgarten and famed for centuries. Old vines on deep, meager loess soils with a high limestone content impart structure, depth, finesse, and baroque aromaticity to the wine, shaped by continental-Pannonian climatic influences.
A combination of spontaneous fermentation – a small proportion on the skins – and gentle aging in 500-liter casks complements the taut structure typical of Ried Karlsberg, with its open aromatics and breadth of texture. A cuvée of Riesling and Grüner Veltliner.
Vividly pure nose with ripe Mirabelle, white pepper, and subtle mandarin peel. A lovely fluidity defines the palate: a compact, rounded, flexible shape, agile and juicy, filled to the brim with white pepper and elongated by citrus notes that combine lemon, tangerine, and clementine. (AK MW Vinous)
